Or is Japan's xenophobia and homogeneous nature bigger than I expected because they block most content media, websites and goods from the USA. I can almost never access music video on Youtube or idol blogs or sometimes even their own websites because of my region and I can't understand why, especially since when it comes to certain things, Japan can't wait to shove it down our throats but 88% of anything else is practically Japanese exclusive .
Why is this?
PS: I'm not hating on the people or anything like that. Just frustrated at how limited Japan is when it comes to global marketing (besides when it comes to their cars).

Interesting question. I'll look up for some articles on that.
I disagree on Japan hating America though. I think it has more to do with Japan being strict about their content leaking to some countries or sometimes everywhere else. As for America, sorry for my ignorance, but I guess that they might not want such a big country to access their content...I don't know how to explain this but stuff can escalate real quick with Americans involved, they're like the center of the world. Downloading/streaming could get out of hand or something, as well as criticism...? Am I uttering bullsh*t right now? lol Like the Japanese "Cool japan" thing (equivalent to hallyu) has cooled down...they seem to have very little interest in expanding abroad nor giving free access to their content (as a whole) like Korea does.
But seriously, Europeans can access some of their stuff but not all. Some of Chinese streaming sites are like that...I use an unblock plug-in but it often doesn't work.

In my opinion the issue is more of a copyright licensing one and it does not apply only the U.S. - take the case of Netflix for example, the content for each country varies. Many Japanese companies are unwilling to put their media products online because of the fear that people will be able to take it for free. -cough; Johnny's- And even if companies do post things online, like Avex, it is typically not the full version.
There's also the issue of signing up for the idol's fan clubs and such, but I think the problem there is that they assume there just isn't that many overseas fans, and pushing for international distribution is too much work and money.
